Career Development
The Career Development Committee oversees the FPA of Wisconsin Scholarship. The FPA-WI Scholarship Program provides financial assistance to students pursuing the Certified FinancialTM Planner certification.
CAREER DEVELOPMENT COMMITTEE
MISSION: The Career Development Committee will work to advance the efforts of the FPA to enhance professional development and build a strong professional community.
VISION: We will work with members to provide opportunities to enter the profession and develop their practices, which will deepen their involvement in the profession; specifically in the areas of employment, education, professional development, leadership and community involvement.
COMMITTEE DESCRIPTIONS
DIRECTOR OF CAREER DEVELOPMENT
Goal: Ensure the mission and vision of the Career Development Committee is being fulfilled along with promoting the CFP Certification by way of the CFP® scholarship process.
Estimated monthly time commitment: 1-3 hours
Array of Duties
· Clarify and advance the vision of the career development committee
· Coordinate and run effective meetings for the career development committee
· Maintain communication on behalf of committee
· Serve as resource for career development by acting as point person for questions and collaborative efforts
· Assist in developing an annual chapter budget, including career development committee budget
· Communicate with members delivering and promoting career development programs that advance the financial planning profession
· Attend monthly board meetings, chapter meetings, and chapter activities
· Review scholarship applications and provide recommendation for board approval
STUDENT LIAISON (Sub-committee):
Goal: Develop strong relationship with local college/university programs to act as a resource for students.
Estimated monthly time commitment: 1-2 hours
Array of Duties
· Serve on Career Development Committee as university liaison
· Establish and maintain student chapters at local college/universities and promote the financial planning as a profession to interested college students
· Encourage student involvement in chapter programs to enhance networking relations with members and encourage members to interact with students by speaking to finance clubs
· Develop FPA Student Chapters with applicable college/university programs
· Promote programs for member involvement with student chapters including mentorship and internship opportunities developed by the Career Development Committee
· Submit periodic articles for the chapter newsletter about student and regular membership
· Attend and actively participate in committee meetings
· Attend chapter programs and activities
CAREER DAY DIRECTOR (Sub-committee):
Goal: Organize an annual Career Day to provide internship and employment opportunities to students and new planners.
Estimated monthly time commitment: 1-2 hours
Array of Duties
· Serve on Career Development Committee to create a process for and promote an annual Career Day event
· Promote Career Day through local colleges and universities
· Enlist the help of the Membership Committee to introduce new planners and student members to our committee
· Advertise event in quarterly newsletter and during chapter meetings
· Attend and actively participate in committee meetings
· Attend chapter programs and activities
MENTORSHIP PROGRAM DIRECTOR (Sub-committee):
Goal: Provide a resource for new planners to be paired with existing professionals for mentorship purposes.
Estimated monthly time commitment: 1-2 hours

· Serve on Career Development Committee to create a process for and promote a Mentorship Program
· Develop system to connect new planners with the FPA-WI chapter who are seeking advice and counseling with experienced financial planning professionals
· Advertise mentorship opportunities in quarterly newsletter and at chapter events
· Attend and actively participate in committee meetings
· Attend chapter programs and activities
